Pretty Pink Posh

Dads and Grads Theme Week (with Pretty Pink Posh) : Day 5

You are probably wondering why I’m sharing a bunch of graduation cards cards this late. I was going to post them on Saturday, but life happened. But I have the cards made, might as well share them, you can always make them for graduation party coming up or change the sentiments for thank you cards too!

As you know, this theme week was more to challenge me to make masculine cards more than anything else, as you probably know that I gravitate towards florals and all things glittery! Another thing that I’m not good at is coloring critters, but my new collections of zig real brush markers has helped! I plan on using the current coloring challenge to get a little more practice with critters has I have managed to collect A LOT of them!

After coloring my little critter images, I die cut them with the coordinating die, but these images can also be fussy cut as they aren’t that detailed. I wanted to create cards that can be mass produced, so after the coloring I chose to keep the rest of the card relatively simple. I used two stencils to create an embossed card two (one with graduation caps and the second with bows). I adhered the critters using foam tape an added some star sequins and some clear ones to finish of the cards.

And that’s it! Thanks for following along this theme week, I really hope that it inspires you to use what you have in your stash and just be creative! We don’t need the newest and greatest products to create!

As always, I’ll leave you with a list of supplies that I used. I also updated supplies for day 4, here. (The rest of the theme week can be found here (day 1), here (day 2) and here (day 3))

Dads and Grads Theme Week (with Pretty Pink Posh) : Day 4

For today’s post I decided to look at the stash, and I found an older stamp set from Pretty Pink Posh, and the sentiment was perfect for a graduation card! But how to make a Father’s Day card with the same stamp. After some thinking, I decided to use one of the stamps to create my own background, inspired by my crafting bestie, Crystal. She’s the queen of CAS cards and the reason I am back in the blogging world!

IMG-0773

I couldn’t decide on a color palette so went with a rainbow, rainbows are always a good idea. For the graduation card, I used the sentiment, ‘let your dreams soar’, don’t you think its perfect? I colored the kites with my chameleon dual tone pencils, with some simple shading like yesterday’s post. I die cut them using the coordinating dies. To create the background I used a MFT cloud stencil and some distress oxide in salty ocean. I stamped the sentiment, and adhered the strings with some tape adhesive and the kites with some 3M tape to add some dimension.

IMG-0779

For the second card, you can use a ‘happy father’s day’ sentiment, but I used a happy birthday die as I told I mentioned previously I don’t need anymore of those cards! But wanted to continue sharing some masculine card ideas! I stamped the sentiment in versafine Black onyx ink, and covered it with some ranger halographic embossing powder (this time I used the right one!), then I used the solid kite image from the set to repeatedly stamp a background in versamark ink and covered it with the same embossing powder. Once heat set, I ink blended with some distress oxides, and created the rainbow. The card looked a little plain to me, so I added some party mix jewels from Pretty Pink Posh to finish off the cards!

(I’ll be back to link all the products I used!)

Dads and Grads Theme Week (with Pretty Pink Posh) : Day 3

Three days in a row! When was the last time did this ever happen! Today is baby at home day plus we are road tripping tomorrow, so this post is going to be short and sweet. You can find day 1 of this theme week here, along with day 2 here.

IMG-0743

For today’s cards I did some really quick coloring, with minimal blending. Since the images are so small, no one will be the wiser. Using the coordinating I cut them out to use as accents on the shaker windows.

IMG-0748

For the ‘congrats’ shaker, I started by diecutting the Stitched Film Strip Die (from Pretty Pink Posh) 6 times and glued them together. I really wanted the sections to stay separated, that why layered the diecuts. I did add a layer of acetate after the first colored diecut. To add a little interest to card front, I stamped the clustered confetti stamp with a brown ink and added the sentiment. After filling the shaker with sequins, and closing it off with a second sheet of acetate. Once the glue dried, I attached it to the card front and added the colored images for the final touch.

IMG-0749

For the second card, you can use a ‘happy father’s day’ sentiment, but since I don’t need anymore of them, I just used a ‘happy birthday’ sentiment as I’m always struggling with masculine cards. To created the shaker for this I die cut the storybook 1 and scalloped frame die from some colored card stock together. I was going to keep the windows separated, but I ran out of time and couldn’t find my thin foam strips, #momlife. Instead I just added a double layer of 3M foam tape, to create the shaker window, along with some acetate. I filled with with sequins and attached it to the card front, after stamping the sentiment. Just like the congrats card, I added my colored images to finish off the card.

Hope these cards inspire you to create something soon from your stash!

Dads and Grads Theme Week (with Pretty Pink Posh) : Day 2

Welcome back to day 2! For more details on this theme week, read yesterday’s post here. For today’s cards I decided to do some messy watercoloring or ‘ink smooshing’. I used my distress oxides again, in an attempt to keep the supply list for this theme week short and the mess in my room at a minimum! But while making them I realized that regular distress inks work way better, plus the fact that I have the minis make it easier to mix colors! So, if you have them, use those! The results are much better!

IMG-0705

So are you wondering why the sentiments are in white and not very visible? Well I thought I was using clear embossing powder on back ink, not no it was white. Yup, lots and lots of white embossing powder means no black sentiments. But I just went with it.

Individual card pictures and products used are listed below and all products used are linked below. I used water color paper as they handle water better. For the technique, I used a page protector to ‘smoosh’ the ink on to, then spraying it with water, before adding it to the inked and embossed card stock. You can use acetate or leftover packaging from your stamps. Let the card stock dry, to add more layers of color.

In an effort to stick with a masculine theme and keep my use of glitter to a minimum, I resisted from adding a glitter cardstock background, but you are more than welcome to do so if you would like, also change up the colors of the graduation cards to match the school!

Dads and Grads Theme Week (with Pretty Pink Posh) : Day 1

Finally posting day one of this theme week super late as it got dark last night by the time I finished making these so had to wait till morning to take pictures. Today through Saturday, I’ll be posting Father’s day and Graduation cards, super quick and easy designs, so you can recreate them in time for the weekend! But if you don’t need those type of cards, you can also change out the sentiments for a different event, as you’ll see I did with some of the cards in the coming posts! I have a hard time making masculine cards, so challenged myself with this theme week.

IMG-0683

For these cards, you can use any type of ink that you can blend with. I used distress oxides but I have used Fresh Inks from Impress Cards and Crafts and Gina K die inks for blending too. For today’s card a used the “double blending” or “tone on tone” blending technique, basically I used one ink per card to create a dual tone colored background.

Using a make up brush and Strathmore Bristol smooth card stock (cut to an A2 size), I very lightly blended the entire background. For the second layer, I attached the stencil with some washi tape and very heavily blended the same color ink over the stencil. And your background is done!

For the sentiments, I just added a Happy Father’s Day and Congrats script die. I cut the top layer from glitter card stock and stacked then with plain cardstock using a quickie glue pen for added dimension. I backed the diecuts with some vellum to make it pop! I used ginak connect glue behind the diecuts to adhere the vellum to the inked background.

I used the following distress oxide colors : wilted voilet, candied apple, twisted citron and broken china.
