Hi crafty friends! Hope that y’all had a great long weekend! Life has been very real these past few weeks, so unfortunately blogging took a back seat. As I get used to my new schedule I have high hopes being more regular here! I was on the Ellen Hutson Blog last week and it was so exciting to be on there as I have been a fan of Ellen Hutson for years! Did you know that May is National Strawberry month? I didn’t, until Carly reached out to me about guest designing! I’m was over the moon, who wouldn’t be as Ellen Hutson is my favorite one stop shop for all things crafty, especially as they are just a drive away!
Let’s get to the card I’m shared on the Ellen Hutson Blog! I love shaker cards, they aren’t as complicated as they look, especially when you use a frame die cut! I used the colors of a strawberry as my starting point for this card. I choose the following distress oxide inks for my blend.
I used Abandoned Coral, Candied Apple, Twisted Citron, and Mowed Lawn, along with Black Soot and Gansai Tambi White paint for the splatters.
Ink splatters are a great way to hide imperfections in the ink blending, and they worked well with my strawberry theme. If using multiple colors of splatters, let each one dry before adding the next layer to avoid muddy colors.
Once my ink splatters dried, I die cut the ink blended sheet using the Pretty Pink Posh Birthday Frame Die. I wanted to add something to the back of the shaker, and the cake from the Essentials By Ellen’s Cake by Julie Ebersole fit in the frame perfectly with space for a sentiment.
I stamped the outline of the image using Versafine Ink (in Onyx Black) along with the sentiment. I recommend using a stamp positioner for this step as it makes lining up the solid stamp easier. For the solid images of the stamp, I used the same distress oxide inks as my ink blend, Abandoned Coral, Candied Apple, and Twisted Citron.
I finished off the card by creating a shaker using some liquid glue to adhere the die cut frame to the acetate, then added a thin pieces of foam tape to add dimension for the shaker. I created the shaker mix using matching colors from my sequin stash. I filled my shaker window, added the backing with the stamped image and sentiment and added it to a card front.
